Larry Freeman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sweetwater Memory Chapel on Feb. 10, 2026.
Larry Athel Freeman, age 72, went to be with the Lord on February 8, 2026, in Sweetwater, Tennessee.

He was born in Athens, Tennessee, to Athel Freeman and Della Williams Freeman.

Larry was married to Susan McKenzie Freeman for 50 years, a partnership marked by devotion and constancy.

He is survived by his wife and children: Geoffrey Freeman (wife Darlene) and Laura Barnes (husband Jonathan).

He is also survived by his grandchildren: Jocelyn Golec (husband Nathan), Emily Parliment (husband Bobby), Joel Smack, Randy Barnes, Jared Smack, Bram Freeman (wife Mahayla), Essie Barnes, Elodie Freeman, and Dashiell Freeman; and by his great-grandchildren, Clayton Freeman, Clementine Freeman, and Elizabeth Parliment.

Larry is survived by his siblings: Gary Freeman; Sandy Hodges (husband Trendel); and Donna Valadez (husband Nick).

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Randy Freeman.

Larry was a veteran of the United States Army and the National Guard and spent his working life as an award-winning truck driver. In 2017, he was recognized as one of America's Top Private Fleet Drivers at the National Safety Conference after accumulating 3,265,000 miles with a safe driving record, a testament to his professionalism and dedication.

Off the road, Larry was a devout follower of God and a proud family man. He was always very supportive of his children and deeply appreciative of their accomplishments, and there was nothing he'd rather do than attend his grandchildren's activities and sporting events. To those who knew him, Larry was one of the most personable people you could meet. If you ever had the honor of meeting Larry, you were never a stranger again, and you most likely shared a warm, genial conversation.

Receiving of friends will be held on Wednesday, February 11, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 pm in the Sweetwater Memory Chapel with the funeral service immediately following at 7:00 pm with Rev. Vernon Webb officiating. Interment will be at Sweetwater Memorial Park on Thursday, February 12, 2026 at 11:00 am.
