Virgil Lowe Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Sweetwater Memory Chapel on Oct. 15, 2025.
Virgil "David" Lowe passed away at his Sweetwater home early Monday morning on October 13, 2025. He was a storyteller and a man off strength, intelligence, kindness, and love.
He was born on June 11, 1970, and grew up on the family farm in Paint Rock, TN. Many of his favorite stories took place here, often involving his brother Jim, some bad decisions, and a few near-death experiences. He attended Midway High School and graduated in 1988. Everyone knew him as Bubba.
He loved football and played for the Green Waves starting in 8th grade. Later, he became "Coach Lowe" when he helped start a youth league team in his community. He eventually helped coach the Tellico Plains Bears and the Sweetwater Wildcat high school football teams as well.
"Mr. Lowe" came along when he became a teacher after graduating from Tennessee Wesleyan and later Morehead State University. He taught senior English and dual enrollment comp classes at Sweetwater High School and later night classes for Cleveland State Community College. He loved his job, and most importantly he loved his students. He taught them Beowulf, Macbeth, and "The Red Wheelbarrow" along with many lessons on life in general.
Finally, he became "David" when he began dating his future wife Lisa McDaniel-Lowe. They were together 40 years, married for the last 30. He was the love of her life. He was a husband, a brother, an uncle, a friend, and a "Dayday" to a special few. He was amazing. He was loved and will be missed.
There will be a celebration of life held at the Sweetwater High School gymnasium on October 25 at 4:00 P.M. with Corporate Chaplain: Jeff Spry officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. before the service. Everyone is welcomed to come and share their favorite memories and stories.
