Gary Smithandrews Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Biereley-Hale Funeral Home, Inc. - Madisonville on Feb. 12, 2026.
Gary Dale Smithandrews, 83, of Sweetwater, Tennessee, passed away on February 2, 2026, in Knoxville, Tennessee.

Gary Dale was born in Mulligan's Bend in Crooksville, Ohio-though he always fondly said he lived in McLuney. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, retiring as a Master Sergeant, and later continued his professional life as a Director of Human Resources.

In retirement, Gary Dale found his greatest joy in the quiet, meaningful moments of life. He spent his days alongside his beloved wife, Lauren, reading, tending to the garden, and sharing peaceful evenings together. A man who truly lived in the moment, Gary Dale carried a calm, stress-free approach to life. He was a man of few words, but his love for his family ran deep and unmistakable-his face always lighting up when they were near.

Gary Dale was a kind, quiet soul who was happiest when surrounded by family. He loved walking his dog, Zoe, and could often be found cuddling with his cats, content in the simple comforts of home.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jennie Christina Smith; his father, George Smith Jr.; and his brother, Larry Gale Smith.

Gary Dale is survived by his loving wife, D. Lauren Smithandrews; his children, Marlin Smith (Cheryl Norman), Mark Smith, and David Smith (Janet Smith); and Rebecca Lombardi (Nicholas Lombardi). He is also survived by his grandchildren, Kyle Smith, Ryan Norman, Cassie Titko (Jimmy Titko), Steven Ta (Nhu Hoang), Brian Ta, Elizabeth Smith, and Jalynn Christine, as well as his great-grandchildren, Miley Norman and Maxwell Titko. In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his nephew, Sean Smith.

A service with military honors will be held on Friday, March 6, at 10:00 a.m. at the East Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery, 2200 E. Gov. John Sevier Highway, Knoxville, Tennessee 37920.

Gary Dale's legacy lives on in the quiet strength he showed, the love he gave so freely, and the peaceful presence he brought to those lucky enough to know him.
