Frederick Wray Burgin, age 92, of Royal Oak, passed away on October 10, 2025. He was born in Detroit on June 18, 1933 to Claude and Susan Burgin.
Raised in Detroit, Fred built a life grounded in hard work, family, and adventure. A master plumber and proud member of the Detroit Plumbers Union Local 98, Fred took great pride in his craft and the friendships he built over the years.
Fred shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with his beloved wife, Kay. Together, they were true partners in every sense-raising a family, building a home filled with laughter and love, and exploring the world side by side. Their shared passion for travel took them to 98 countries, creating a lifetime of memories and stories that delighted everyone lucky enough to hear them.
A lifelong sports fan, Fred cheered faithfully for the Detroit Lions and enjoyed watching just about any game that brought family together around the TV. He also loved the outdoors, especially hunting trips and spending time "up north" at his children's places-his favorite escapes for relaxation, good company, and nature.
Above all, Fred adored his family. Whether gathered for a holiday meal, a weekend visit, or a simple get-together, he found his greatest joy in being surrounded by those he loved most. His warmth and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Fred will be remembered as the beloved husband of the late Kay. Loving father of Katherine, Michael (Roberta), Barbara (Bill) Boutell, and Pauline (Bob) Rocker. Proud grandfather of eight and great-grandfather of sixteen. Dear brother of Bill (Mary Anne) and brother-in-law of Daniel Briggs and Judy Chambers.
Visitation for Fred will be held on Thursday, October 16, from 4 - 8 p.m. at Wm. Sullivan & Son Funeral Directors, 705 W. Eleven Mile Rd. (four blocks east of Woodward), Royal Oak. Additional visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, from 10:00 a.m. until time of funeral service, 11:00 a.m., at the funeral home.
