Frederick David Capel passed away peacefully on December 17, 2025, in his beloved Salem, Ohio. Born on July 11, 1937, Fred lived a life marked by dedication, kindness, and an unwavering commitment to his family and community.
A proud resident of Salem for his entire life, Fred found purpose in his career as an insurance salesman with Western Southern. His warm demeanor and genuine care for others earned him numerous friendships and deep respect among his colleagues and clients. Fred approached every day with a positive spirit, spreading joy and in the simple pleasures of life.
Fred is survived by his devoted wife, Margie Capel, whom he married on December 24, 1979, and who stood faithfully by his side through both life's trials and triumphs. He leaves behind a large family, with whom he shared a profound bond marked by laughter, shared stories, and countless memories.: sister Shirley Katzenhuber, brother Gerald, daughters Cali Shoen and Cacy Miranda, stepsons Mark (Katie) Mead, Tim Mead, 7 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren. Fred was preceded by his parents, Burt and Hazel (Lottman) Capel, brothers Robert, Bruce, Richard and Burt Jr., sisters Betty and Joann, son Derf, and stepson Mickey.
Fred was a graduate of Salem High School, an avid reader and wonderful cook, but most of all he loved spending time with family.
A graveside service will take place at a later date at Hope Cemetery, Salem, Ohio. In this time of remembrance, we encourage all who knew Fred to reflect on the wonderful memories and lessons he imparted throughout his life. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will remain alive in the hearts of all who loved him. Services are entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, Salem Chapel (330) 337-6363, www.BrownFHonline.com.
