Frederick Disk Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McGhee-Givnish Funeral Home, Inc. on Mar. 3, 2026.
Fred was born and raised on Long Island, New York. From a young age, he held a fascination for all things mechanical, learning by taking small motors apart and rebuilding them. He learned the trades by helping his dad build their summer home in Montauk. It was in Montauk where he gained his passion for fishing. He and his dad could often be found surfcasting off the beach in front of the house, hauling in schools of fish.

After high school, Fred joined the Air Force, proudly serving his country as a jet engine mechanic. He was stationed in Newfoundland, where he met the love of his life, Doreen, beginning a partnership that would span 51 years.

Fred and Doreen were subsequently stationed in South Carolina, after which he went on to open his own auto body shop-another addition to Fred's long line of talents. He later returned to New York and spent time working for Pan Am, repairing jet engines, before the couple ultimately settled in Warminster, Pennsylvania.

In Pennsylvania, Fred began a 60-year career selling refractories domestically and internationally. He was well respected for his knowledge and his ability to educate his customers, but his friendly and joyful demeanor led to many long-standing friendships that he cherished until his last days. Fred was famous for his Caesar salad-a calling card that made him the preferred vendor at many steel mills.

Fred and Doreen built a wonderful life for their family. Their home was a gathering place for neighbors, friends, and family, especially around the pool that Fred built himself. He made sure everyone was happy, because that is what made him happy. The family took yearly road trips to visit relatives in Newfoundland, where days were spent outdoors riding snowmobiles, cross-country skiing, kayaking, fishing, and swimming. Evenings often ended at what were known locally as "kitchen parties," playing Newfie folk music with a heavy Celtic influence-his father-in-law on the accordion, Wallace and later Gary on the mandolin and spoons. These times were filled with love and laughter.

Fred also enjoyed the Delaware River, where he took his girls boating and water skiing, and where he had one of the only wet bikes on the river. His antics on those wet bikes with his buddy Barry were legendary.

Fred was a gifted storyteller, sharing his knowledge, experience, and hilarious tales that captivated all who listened. He never met anyone he considered a stranger, always wanting to hear your story as well as regale you with his own. He was generous with his time and attention. A man of character and strength, Fred often advised the young souls coming up behind him-not only about mechanics or the trades, but also about how to navigate life.

Fred cherished his daughters and grandchildren and loved getting to know and embrace his sons-in-law as if they were his own. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. His final wishes were that people not be sad; he was not sad, but felt he had lived a good life and was ready to go.

Family and friends are invited to Fred's Life Celebration on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Northampton Valley Country Club, 299 Richboro Road, Richboro, PA 18954. Guests are asked to arrive at 11:00 a.m., with the Memorial Service beginning at 11:30 a.m., followed by a luncheon.
