Frederick L. Gruss, 93, of Peoria, IL, died Sunday, October, 27, 2024, at Apostolic Christian Skylines in Peoria.
He was born September 13, 1931, in Peoria, to Louis and Hazel Gruss. Fred married Minnie Shea on February 23, 1957, in Peoria.
Fred is survived by a daughter, Laurie (Jim) Biery of Dunlap, IL; three grandchildren: Sarah (Samantha) Whitley of Tomahawk, WI, Amy (Dustin) Magner of Bartonville, IL, and Brooke Gruss of Chillicothe, IL. He is further survived by four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 66 years, Minnie; son, Douglas; grandson, Ben; and brother, Carl.
Fred was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1951 to 1955. He worked as an electrician for over 40 years, working at Pabst Brewing, Hiram Walker Distillery, and Saint Francis Medical Center.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and camping and fishing at the Hiram Walker Rod and Gun Club in Farmington, IL. Fred was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Peoria for 67 years.
The family would like to give a special thanks to Apostolic Christian Skylines for their excellent care and compassion.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Springdale Cemetery in Peoria. Memorials donations may be made to Apostolic Christian Skylines (7023 NE Skyline Dr., Peoria, IL, 61614) or First English Lutheran Church (725 E. Forrest Hill Avenue, Peoria, IL 61603).
