Frederick McLucas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Haven of Rest Funeral Home, Cemetery, Crematory - Gig Harbor on Dec. 18, 2025.
Frederick McLucas passed away on October 28, 2025 at his home in Port Orchard, surrounded by family. He was 104. Fred was born on April 10, 1921 in Spokane Washington to Carl and Nettie McLucas. He had two siblings, brother Horton and sister Marian.

Fred graduated from North Central High School in 1939. Two years later he was recruited by Boeing in support of the war effort. Fred relocated to Seattle and began his 38 year Boeing career.

In 1943 Fred married his first wife Edna Robbins from Bonners Ferry Idaho. They welcomed daughter Janyce in 1944. While marriage ended Fred always saw daughter Janyce as its gift. While visiting his parents in Spokane Fred met his second wife Shirley Moore. They married in 1950 and had two daughters, Michele and Terri. Their marriage dissolved after 13 years. Fred took on the challenging task of raising his daughters as custodial parent. He was a dedicated single parent.

In 1970 Fred met his life love and partner Bernie McLean. On July 10, 1971 they married and would enjoy 46 years together. They hosted wonderful family and holiday dinners and summer picnics, keeping the family close. In 1981 Fred and Bernie retired from Boeing. Their retirement years were spent enjoying travel abroad, RV trips throughout the United States and wintering in Yuma. Fred and Bernie formed the foundation of their blended family, always providing love and support.

In 2018 Bernie passed away. Fred was 97. He moved in with daughters Michele and Terri forming a close family unit. Fred grieved Bernie's passing deeply. But, a resilient man with a passion for living and in excellent health, he was able to continue on with purpose. The next seven years were filled with trips to visit grandkids in California and daughter Janyce in his home town of Spokane. Fred attended six musical plays every year and enjoyed wonderful holidays and annual family reunions. Each of his passing birthdays were grand celebrations. Often asked his secret to his longevity he would say: I just wake up every morning and go about my day.

Fred was an avid photographer and was always busy with projects. He could build and fix anything. He had a keen interest in technology, using the computer well into his nineties. Fred was a small quiet man with enormous convictions: integrity, honesty, fairness, hard work and fierce commitment to the friends and family he loved, always offering a lending hand. At his core he was the sweetest man.

While we are comforted by a wealth of cherished memories, Fred will be deeply missed.

Fred is survived by his daughters Janyce Keeling (Marty), Michele Biddle and Terri Beers, step-sons Scott McLean and Matt McLean (Kathy), ten grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren and twenty-two great great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held on July 10, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Haven of Rest Funeral Home in Gig Harbor Washington.
