Frederick M. Shallcross, Jr., beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on March 30, 2024 at the age of 85.
Fred was the son of Fred Shallcross, Sr. and Olive Jane Shallcross of Middletown, Delaware. After graduating from Middletown High School in 1956, Fred graduated from Goldey Beacom College and joined the National Guard. He went on to work at Shallcross Chevrolet and assumed ownership of Franklin Fuels after his father in law passed away.
In 1985, Fred and his brother Tommy became co-owners of Shallcross Chevrolet after purchasing the dealership from their father, Fred Shallcross, Sr.
Fred was an avid drag racer and raced with his brother Tommy under the title of Shallcross Brothers. In 1966, the Shallcross Brothers won the US Nationals in Indianapolis, Indiana, class A/Modified Production (A/MP). In 1967, Shallcross brothers won the Spring Nationals in Englishtown, NJ and in 1969 took home second place in the Ultra Stock class.
Fred was an avid boater and was known to be on the water or hanging around in Rock Hall, Maryland on his boat, Jr's Toy. He was a member of the Classic Yacht Club and competed in many navigation contests as part of his Delaware River Power Squadron.
Fred was predeceased by his wife, Carolyn. His parents, Fred Sr., and Olive Jane Shallcross.
He is survived by his son Todd (Jan), granddaughter Lexie (Steven), brothers, Thomas Shallcross (Betty) and Richard Shallcross (Lynn) and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Services will be held privately.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Delaware, 1901 Rockland Rd., Wilmington, DE 19803 or Renee's Rescues of Newark, Delaware: 1291 Churchman Road, Newark, DE 19713.
