Frederick J. Sohr

Frederick J. Sohr of Mahopac, NY passed away on December 11, 2022 at the age of 72. He was born January 17, 1950 in Yonkers, NY; son of the late Frederick and Margaret Sohr. Fred was a proud veteran of the United States Navy and a very patriotic American. He served active duty from 1970-72 near the end of the Vietnam War. On April 4, 1981 he married Margaret Pirone at the Reformed Church in Bronxville, NY; together for over 40 years.
Fred worked for the US Postal Service for over 30 years; started as a mail carrier and later on became a safety inspector. After retirement, he worked another 10 years as a 911 dispatcher in Carmel. Fred was a member of the Mount Vernon Volunteer Fire Dept. and was a collector and enthusiast of model trains and fire trucks.
Fred lived a simple life but his whole world was all about his grandchildren Sofia and James. Just when he thought having two grandchildren fulfilled his life, he was overjoyed with the addition of Erianna and Carlin.
Fred and Marge did a lot of traveling whether going on cruises, flying to different countries, or just enjoying local states. Fred also enjoyed spending Friday night dinners with his long time pals Charlie and Eileen. He had a special place in his heart for his son-in-law Christopher who he had a special bond with. Fred and his step-daughter Cheryl also shared a special bond "I always thought of Fred as more than my step-father. He truly was my Dad and he did so much for me and my family! Fred had the biggest heart!"
Fred is survived by his loving wife Margaret, his daughter Cheryl Guadagnoli and her husband Christopher; grandchildren Sofia, James, Erianna, and Carlin; and his siblings Robert Sohr, Patricia Sohr, and Barbara Horree.
Friends and family are welcome to attend a visitation on Monday, December 19th from 1-3 & 6-8 PM at the Joseph J. Smith Funeral Home in Mahopac, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, December 20th at 10 AM at St. John The Evangelist Church, also in Mahopac. Entombment will follow at Fishkill Rural Cemetery.
