Fred Williams, 85, of Pocomoke City, Maryland, passed away on August 18, 2022. Fred was born in 1937 in Atlantic City, New Jersey to Bill and Ruth Williams. He loved Atlantic City in the pre-casino days - it was a great place to grow up. He graduated from Stetson University in DeLand, Florida, and joined the U.S. Army after graduation. After briefly living in New York City, he came to Washington, D.C. to work for the federal government. He was proud of his career of getting help for medically underserved areas. Fred was always a champion of the people who were left behind.
Fred was passionate about old movies and loved to talk about them with friends. He spent a lot of time scuba diving on wrecks off the East Coast, and was particularly fond of diving the wrecks off North Carolina, the Graveyard of the Atlantic. Fred was also very knowledgeable about wines and beer, led pub crawls for the Open University of Washington, presented wine and beer programs at the Old Europe, and was well known for his parties, including an epic party featuring wines from 48 of the 50 states. He volunteered at the public radio station in Salisbury Maryland for many years.
Fred is survived by his beloved cousin A. Smith "Smitty" Reeves of Las Vegas, Nevada and his dear friends Judy Gallagher of Woodbridge, Virginia, Mary Tobin of Silver Spring, Maryland, Tajimahal Saunders of Pocomoke City and Dallas Saunders of Birdsnest, Virginia. He is also survived by his cats Jellylorum, Jennyanydots and Bustifer Jones, all named after characters in the musical Cats, a Broadway show of which Fred was particularly fond. The world will be a duller place without Fred.
