Fredia Mae Bell, age 72, entered into her eternal Heavenly home on October 22, 2025. She was born on March 10, 1953, to the late Fred Henry Messer and Willa Mae Messer, who undoubtedly welcomed her with open arms into glory.
In addition to her parents, Fredia is preceded in death by three brothers, Willard, Johnny, and Jerry Messer.
Fredia loved the Holy Trinity with all of her heart, and her personal relationship with Jesus was the foundation of her life. She proclaimed Him as her best friend and faithfully shared His love and message with everyone she met. Her devotion to God was reflected in the way she loved others, served her community, and lived with unwavering compassion. One of her greatest joys was spending time with her cherished dog, Angel, who never left her side!
She is survived by her beloved daughter, Melanie Jennings Stokely, and son-in-love, George Robinson Stokely. She is also survived by her dear siblings, brother Dennis Messer, and sisters Linda Thibault and Beverly Campbell. Her legacy continues through many cherished nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews who adored her. She leaves behind a wide circle of family members and friends, too numerous to count, who will deeply miss her radiant spirit and boundless kindness.
Fredia was a dedicated member of Sylva Life Church of God. Her church and faith community were vital parts of her life, and she never hesitated to ask anyone she encountered if they knew Jesus. She truly never met a stranger. Her favorite Bible verse was Philippians 4:13 and her favorite chapter was Psalm 91. She retired from Bi-Lo in 2015 after many years of hard work and service. In her most recent years, she continued to give selflessly as a volunteer with the Jackson County Department on Aging's Adult Daycare Program. She possessed a true servant's heart and endeavored each day to make life brighter for others.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the compassionate caregivers of Haywood Hospice, as well as the supportive staff of Smoky Mountain Cremations and Funeral Service, for their loving care during this time.
Her presence brought joy, comfort, laughter, and love into every moment. Though her earthly journey has concluded, her faith, love, and testimony will continue to shine through those she leaves behind. The family takes comfort in knowing that Fredia is rejoicing in the presence of her Savior, and her light will remain forever in the hearts of those who were blessed to know her.
A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at Sylva Life Church of God, with Pastor Tim Presley officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Sylva Life Church of God Youth Ministry, a cause close to Fredia's heart as she continually encouraged future generations to know and love Jesus
