Fredric Dugan was born Memorial Day, May 30, 1942. He grew up in Rochester, NY attending John Marshall High School, followed by Tri-State College, Indiana. He began a banking career at Lincoln Rochester Trust followed by 30 years of insurance sales retiring from Metropolitan Life in 2003. Being in sales suited Fred to perfection, well dressed and well spoken, always approaching with a warm greeting and his trademark handshake.
He spent childhood summers on Keuka Lake at YMCA Camp Cory, a truly defining experience. He led the way stewarding four family generations and countless friends to attend the camp. He enjoyed simply walking the grounds and sharing memories of camp cheers, friendships and staff baseball games. Always advocating for the camp, he told stories of tradition and Sons of Cory folklore. In recent years he found a passion for boating on Keuka, never tiring of the shoreline from Penn Yan to Hammondsport.
Certainly, family time came first with Fred, married to his wife Joan for over 57 years, he delighted in lively family gatherings and countless holiday celebrations with Friedland's near and far. He traveled to each one of his children's high school and college sporting events, befriending many on the track at Binghamton University and on the shores of the Ithaca College boathouse. He could be found most recently cheering loudly from the sidelines at his granddaughter's varsity softball games. He enjoyed a lifetime of good health and wellness, attributing it to excellent care provided by Dr. Larry Chessin, Dr. Vuillequez and Dr. Karyn Giese.
He surrounded himself not only with his family but with lifelong friends from childhood, his Brighton neighborhood, Char Broil counter, the golf course, the Red Barn and long ago Whillocks, and of course Keuka lake. Fred was gifted with an engaging personality, always ready with a lively exchange of favorite topics, news, politics and the New York Yankees.
Fred was a member of the American Appraiser's Association, developing over many years an expert eye for fine art and antiques. He enjoyed researching and appraising beautiful pieces even providing expertise to the renowned furniture collector Israel Sack of New York City. He liked to teach us, often with painstaking detail, about history through the lens of American furniture and art.
True to his Irish heritage, he marched for 25 consecutive years in the local St. Patrick's Day parade. Just larger than life, an unforgettable presence, Fred remained 'in charge' until the end. It broke our hearts to say goodbye to a great man, husband, father and beloved grandfather.
Fred is survived by his wife Joan, daughter Lisa Falvo, son John (Leslie Sanford) and granddaughter Sophia Falvo, the Friedland family, his cousins and countless friends.
Family and friends are welcome to join us for a funeral mass at St. Michael's Church, 312 Liberty St. Penn Yan, NY on Saturday August 27, 2022 at 1:00pm. A gathering to follow at 4506 East Bluff Dr. Penn Yan, NY 14527.
Memorial donations in Fred's name can be directed to YMCA Camp Cory.

So sorry to learn of Fred's passing. He was always smiling and ever the dapper gentleman whenever we'd see him at the GVC or at Camp Cory. Our deepest condolences go out to our friend Lisa and the whole Dugan family.

Please accept my condolences for the loss of Fred. It has been several years since we were neighbors in Brighton, but I think of him and his family whenever I pass their former home by on Elmwood Ave.

Fred was a great dad to John and his friends growing up. Favorite memory was Fred driving away after picking us (John, me and 12 yr old friends) from a movie and forgetting one of the kids, left standing on the street. We thought it was hysterical! (Fred did come back.)

I am shocked and very saddened by the news of Fred's passing. A fellow student at John Marshall.
A friend that always had an encouraging word, and we shared many a good laugh. We had many of the same friends. My prayers for his wife Joan and children. Hold the good memories to your heart.
