Freedis Wines, age 77, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. Born on November 17, 1947, in Elwood, Indiana, he was the son of Freedis H. Wines and Clara May (Jackmon) Wines.
A proud graduate of Marion High School, Freedis went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His dedication to fellow veterans continued long after his military service, as he worked for many years at various Veterans hospitals, ultimately retiring from the Alvin C. York Veterans Hospital.
Freedis was a long-time member of the VFW in Tullahoma, Tennessee, where he found camaraderie and support among fellow veterans. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Notre Dame football, and he found joy in watching birds at his feeders, following the stock market, and tinkering with his beloved Corvette. A devoted Elvis Presley fan, Freedis also cherished quiet moments in the garden with Jane, his wife of 46 years, until her passing.
He is survived by his two sons, Bobby Wines and Freedis Wines, Jr.; two step-daughters, Heather Monroe and Dawn Wojciechowski; one step-son, Ross Monroe; and three brothers, Marty Wines, Harry Wines, and Tracy Wines.
Freedis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jane Wines; his parents, Clara and Freedis H. Wines; and two brothers, James Wines and Jerry Wines.
A graveside service to celebrate Freedis' life will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Grant Memorial Park, 1606 W. 26th St., Marion, IN 46953, with Bobby Wines officiating.
Arrangements are entrusted to Needham-Storey-Wampner Funeral & Cremation Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, IN.
