Gabe Cherry, 48, of Sweetwater, Texas, passed away on June 24, 2025, surrounded by loved ones who meant the world to him. Born to Gil and Gay Nell Cherry on November 25, 1976, Gabe was a proud son of Sweetwater from his first breath to his last. Gabe is survived by his wife; Tiffany Cherry of Sweetwater, daughter; Kambri Cherry of LaVernia, Texas, parents; Gay Nell and Gil Cherry of Sweetwater, brother; Grant Cherry and wife Lyndi of Sweetwater, step-children; Hunter and Landyn Rotan of Sweetwater, nieces and nephews; Gibson, Gaines, Gates and Griggs Cherry all of Sweetwater, his aunt; Betty Joy Vaught of Roby and his beloved dog "Joe Dirt". A 1995 graduate of Sweetwater High School, Gabe was a true Mustang-on the field and in heart. His talent and determination led him to play football at Eastern New Mexico University before he went on to earn a degree in Sport Science from Texas Tech University in 2004. After graduation, he returned to his roots, joining his father and brother in starting the family business, Family RV Center. Together, they turned hard work and hometown pride into a lasting legacy. Gabe had a gift-he made friends easily and held onto them for life. From childhood to adulthood, his circle was wide and unwavering. Whether on the gridiron or in the community, Gabe embodied strength, loyalty, and heart. His teammates dubbed him "The Chief," a name that stuck-not just for his leadership but for the giant spirit behind the stoic frame. Big and tough on the outside, but a teddy bear through and through. Of all his loves, none compared to his daughter, Kambri-the absolute apple of his eye. She was his pride and joy, and he lit up when she walked into the room. Gabe's role as a father was one he cherished deeply. He found joy in simple pleasures-golf, antiquing, and weekend adventures-always with a story to tell and a laugh to share. But his greatest adventure began when he met Tiffany. Together, they built a beautiful, blended family with Tiffany's boys Hunter, Landyn and his daughter Kambri rooted in love, respect, and genuine connection. Their marriage was a living testament to every vow they spoke. Gabe's legacy is more than dates or accomplishments-it's in the laughter of his friends, the strength of his family, and the countless stories that will be told of "The Chief." His absence will echo deeply, but his presence will always be felt. A celebration of life will be held on June 27, 2025, at 6 p.m. at the Sweetwater Mustang Bowl-the field where his story, and his legend, began. Visitation to follow at 7:30 p.m. at the Sweetwater Country Club.
Rest easy, Chief. Your story lives on.
