Gail I. (Burd) Smith, of Randolph, formerly of
Daytona Beach, FL, a beacon of love and kindness, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2025, after a period of failing health, surrounded by her loving family. Born on May 18, 1944, in Boston, she was the cherished daughter of the late Israel and Sadie Burd. Gail's warm presence and selfless nature left an indelible mark on the hearts of all who knew her.
A devoted wife, Gail was predeceased by her beloved husband, Gregory Smith. Together, they built a life full of love and mutual support. As a loving mother, she instilled values of compassion and strength in her children, Marcy Smith of Randolph, Michelle Smaller and her husband Joe of Randolph, and remembered with affection her late son, Shawn Smith, survived by his wife Wendi Smith of Bridgewater. Gail's role as Nana to Madison Smith, Carly Butler, Ryan Smaller, and Emma Smaller was one of her greatest joys, and she embraced every moment with her grandchildren with enthusiasm and grace.
Gail was a graduate of the Jeremiah E. Burke High School in Boston. Her dedication to helping others was evident in her career as an oral surgical technician at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she worked for over 20 years. Her colleagues will remember her for her unwavering commitment to patient care and her ability to bring a sense of calm to even the most challenging of days.
Outside of work, Gail's interests were diverse and reflected her zest for life. An avid gym-goer, she maintained a commitment to exercising, which kept her spirited and full of energy. Her hands were rarely idle, as she enjoyed the art of crocheting, creating beautiful pieces that became cherished keepsakes.
In the kitchen, Gail's skills shone brightly. She liked to cook each dish with love and care, making meal times a celebration of togetherness. Gail's exceptional caregiving to her husband over two decades highlighted her unwavering dedication and the depth of her love.
Above all, Gail cherished the time spent with her family and friends. She nurtured relationships with patience and understanding, always ready to lend an ear or offer a word of encouragement. Her home was a haven of warmth and filled with laughter.
Gail's legacy is one of unwavering love and selflessness. She was the embodiment of kindness, always putting the needs of others before her own. Her memory will be treasured by her many nieces, nephews, her beloved dog Stella, and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Gail light will continue to shine in the lives of those she touched, and her memory will be forever engraved in our hearts.
