Gail Francis Visconti (nee AuWerter)
passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025 at the age of 83 in her home town of Voorhees, NJ at Subacute Autumn Lake.
Gail was born February 27, 1942 in Camden, New Jersey as the first child to Jennie J.(Helhowski) AuWerter and William F. AuWerter.
She grew up in Pennsauken, New Jersey and graduated Merchantville High School in 1959. Married briefly to Charles Visconti, they had two children, Denise and Douglas.
In 1961 Gail graduated from Pierce Junior Business College in Philadelphia, PA and immediately was hired as a Secretary at Bache & Co., a securities brokerage firm located in Camden, New Jersey.
At Bache Securities, Gail embarked on her life-long professional career path spanning nearly 5 decades - 47 years with the same organization. Through company mergers and acquisitions, she remained dedicated to her work. In 1984 she decided to take the Series 7 exam and became licensed as a stockbroker for administrative purposes. In 2015, at the age of 73, Gail retired from Wells Fargo Financial Advisors as Vice President/ Branch Administrator in Marlton, NJ. For an interesting timeline note, Gail went from using shorthand dictation and reading ticker tapes to retiring using the digital world of computers and reading scrolling election brokerage wall tickers. Her adaptability, professionalism and dedication to her business life was admirable.
Gail's personal life was reserved for family. In her youth, she, her sister, and parents were devoted auto racing fans. They owned grandstand seats and traveled yearly to the Indianapolis 500. Gail's hobby was following all sports. She particularly enjoyed baseball and kept box scores. She was an avid Philly fan but wouldn't hesitate to turn the channel if they were losing. Gail always knew what teams were playing that day and their ranking for baseball, football, basketball & hockey. She followed collegiate sports as well. Gail met and is pre-deceased (2000) by her companion of 30 years, Richard Hessert at her work. They traveled around the country and enjoyed attending US Naval functions. Gail was a diligent and caring mother. As a single, working mother, she found time for it all.
As Grandmom, she faithfully attended her grandchildren's numerous sporting events, ballets, and graduations. She was a quiet constant loving support. Since 1997, Gail relaxed on weekends at her Ocean City, New Jersey shore house-sharing time with family. She
loved the beach and boardwalk with her daughter's, son's & sister's family. For many years, Gail hosted a "Nite in Venice" celebration. She loved summer boating with her son Doug et al and winter destination cruises with Denise et al. Et al a Latin word consistently needed for crossword puzzles. Gail was an expert level crossword master. Daily, she embraced sitting quietly completing the newspaper puzzle with her beloved Ragdoll cat Jazz by her side.
Gail, a loving mother survived by her daughter Denise and husband Burke Cain of Rehoboth, Massachusetts, son Douglas and his wife Lisa Visconti of Berlin, NJ, Grandchildren Amanda (Gregory Evans of TX), Ashley (Craig Scanland of PA), Stephanie (Kyle Zimnuich of TX ), Julia (Nate Strother of NC), William (Miranda) Hanson, of NJ, Frank (MaryLynn) Visconti, of NJ and Whitney (Dan) Pascale of NJ, currently eleven (11) beloved great-grandchildren. She is also survived by brother-in-law Elmer Phillips, niece Jenny (Vince) Farina and their twins Avery and Logan, nephew Kurt (Sara) Phillips, cousins and many dear friends.
Gail is predeceased by her beloved parents William and Jennie AuWerter, her sister Karen (Missy) Phillips. Together, laid side-by-side at Lake View Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, New Jersey may she rest in peace eternally.
"He will be our guide even unto death" Psalm 48:14
