Gar J Hunter died early Wednesday morning, April 12, 2023, at his home in Plain City. He was 82 years old. He was born January 18, 1941, the son of Floyd and Larene Nelson Hunter. He had 3 siblings, LaVar Hunter (deceased), Donna (Jay) Black and Kent (Donna) Hunter.
He grew up in Wilson, attended Weber County Schools and graduated from Weber High School. He married Florence Rhead on November 9, 1961, in the Logan Temple. Together they had 2 children, Lori and Ty.
He worked for Utah Power & Light as a lineman, line crew supervisor, retiring as a substation operation manager. He met many lifelong friends while working there. He played sports, playing on baseball, softball, and slow pitch teams. He excelled in being able to hit home runs.
He loved horses, owning and racing Quarter and Thoroughbred horses. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling, and going on cruises with his wife and friends.
He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. He and his wife served 2 service missions and he coached many young men's teams in church softball.
Gar leaves behind his wife, Florence; daughter, Lori (Dave); and his son, Ty (Susan). He had 4 grandchildren, Sydney (Mitch), Cole, Maggie, and Calder; 1 great grandson, Briggs, that he waited to see and play with.

Services for Gar will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2023, at 11 am at the Plain City Stake Center, 4630 W. 2150 N., Plain City, UT. Viewings will be held Tuesday, April 18, 2023, from 6-8 pm at Myers Mortuary, 845 Washington Blvd., Ogden, UT and from 10-10:40 am at the church prior to services.
Interment will be at the Plain City Cemetery, 4373 W. 1975 N., Plain City, UT.
Gar's funeral service will be recorded and later posted on his obituary page where it can be watched if unable to attend service.
