Garland L. Spaid

Garland Lee Spaid,79, of Gore, VA, died on Sunday, September 14, 2025, at the Winchester Medical Center.

Garland was born on February 10, 1946, in Winchester, VA, the son of the late Curtis L. and Mable Virginia Stotler Spaid. Garland worked in many professions throughout his life, including as a mechanic, in construction, and as a heavy equipment operator. Most recently, he was employed with Timber Ridge Farms, where he assisted with building roads.

He had a deep love for the outdoors, enjoying activities such as fishing, hunting in his younger years, and gardening. Garland also found joy in attending shooting matches and spending time woodworking, hobbies that reflected both his skill and craftmanship.

Garland married Dorothy Hawse Spaid on September 3, 1964, in Hancock, MD.

Surviving along with his wife of 61 years are two sons: David A. Spaid of Cross Junction, VA; Michael T. Spaid of Norfolk, VA; a daughter: Pamela S. Spaid of Slanesville, WV; a brother: Junior Spaid of Capon Bridge, WV; a sister: Betty Parkinson of Winchester, VA; five grandchildren: Jessica Spaid, Tiffany Spaid, Cassie Halstead, Brandon Spaid and Renee Finzel and seven great grandchildren: Destiny, DeJohna, Damerius, Jerimah, Macie, Aria and Jaxson.

He is preceded in death by an infant brother, a half-brother: Glenn Spaid and three half-sisters: Nancy DeJohn, Una Mae Spaid and Ruth Cheshire.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2025, at the Giffin Funeral Home & Crematory in Capon Bridge, WV at 11 AM. Officiating will be Pastor David Bradfield. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery near Whitacre, VA.
