Gary Abke Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Herrington/Land of Memory Funeral Home on Oct. 25, 2025.
It is with deep sadness and love that we announce the passing of Gary Dale Abke, age 66, of Palestine. He passed away on Friday, October 24, 2025. He was born in Navasota, Texas on August 12, 1959 to parents Ervin Abke and Christine Hemann Abke.
Gary made Palestine his home for more than 30 years, where he built a life filled with love, laughter, and lasting memories. A true outdoorsman at heart, he found peace and joy in nature, whether he was hunting in the early morning quiet or spending long afternoons fishing by the water. Gary's greatest happiness, however, came from time spent with his family. He cherished every moment with his children and grandchildren, always ready with a story to tell, a helping hand, or a warm smile. Gary proudly served with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, where he worked for many years before retiring. Above all his love for the simple things in life and his devotion to those he cared for will be remembered and deeply missed by all who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Rickie Abke; and sister, Brenda Abke. Gary is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Denise Abke; daughters, Valerie Christine Lipsey and husband Jordan of Oakwood, Brittany Nicole Abke of Oakwood, and Rachel Elizabeth Flowers and husband Michael of Neches; brothers, Johnnie Abke and wife Sheryle of Splendora, Rodney Abke and wife Sandy of Cleveland, and Dennis Abke and wife Cheryl of Porter; sisters, Carol Ditta and husband Damon of Oklahoma, and Kim Locke and husband Glen of Elgin; grandchildren, Tank, Tripp, Briggs, Abbie, Ayden, Ava, Preston, Jaxon, and Westyn; as well as nieces, nephews, and many loved ones.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at Herrington / Land of Memory Funeral Home in Palestine, Texas, followed by funeral services at 3:00 p.m. officiated by Bro. Keith January. Burial will follow at Land of Memory Cemetery.
