Jerry L. Abke, age 83, of Pemberville, OH passed away on January 1, 2026 at Mercy St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, OH surrounded by family. He was born on August 22, 1942 in Perrysburg, OH to Norman and Helen (Zesing) Abke. On February 5, 1966 he married Joy Lynn Garling in Custar, OH. Jerry and Joy Lynn raised 3 children and celebrated nearly 60 years of marriage together.
Jerry graduated in 1960 from Eastwood High School. He began his career as a truck driver right out of high school working for various companies including the Andersons and Abke Trucking. He eventually purchased his own truck, continuing his career for over fifty years. Even after retirement Jerry continued escorting boats with his twin brother, Jack, for Hurricane Transport.
He was a fan of the Washington Redskins, however, his greatest joy was spending time with his family and sharing stories from his days on the road.
In addition to his wife Joy Lynn, Jerry is survived by his children: Jeff Abke and Joni (Greg Henline) Abke. Grandchildren: Cassie (Alex) McCurdy, and Chloe Wilson-Henline, great-grandchildren: Wren Alexander, and Azalea Joylynn McCurdy, sister, Janet Miller, sister-in-law, Jane Garling, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, twin brother, Jack C. Abke, son, Joel Cory Abke, and brothers-in-law, Sam Miller and Lee Garling.
The family will announce a graveside service at a later date, where Jerry will be laid to rest in Troy Township Cemetery, Luckey, OH.
