Gary Joseph Chase Sr., 73, passed away on January 12, 2024. He was born on June 10, 1950, to Charles J. Chase and Virginia A. (Goldbach) Chase in Evansville, Indiana.
Gary proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years. He graduated from North High School and went on to graduate from Ivy Tech Community College. He worked at the Economy Grocery Store prior to his service. He did factory work after returning from the Navy and worked at Cummins Engine Company in multiple positions for 43 years. Gary was a talented storyteller, doesn't matter true or not, he could reel you into the story. He had a sense of humor second to none, he loved telling jokes. He enjoyed writing; he was currently working on his very own book. He loved movies; it was a Saturday night tradition with Kathy, popcorn, Svengoolie, Batman, Star Trek, and Kolchhak The Night Stalker. He enjoyed watching Old Westerns. Gary had a heart of gold and was the most giving, genuine soul. He was Mr. Magnificent. He was his grandchildren's biggest fan, he was such a proud Papaw, or sometimes Papaw Chauffeur. He and Kathy were Mr. and Mrs. Claus every year and enjoyed every second. Above all, Gary loved his family more than anything. He was an amazing son, husband, father, papaw, and friend.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 33 years Kathy; children Kelly Chase, Benjamin Chase (Katharina), Don Johnson (Carisa); mother Virginia Chase; step-mother Marjorie Chase; siblings Theresa Coffee, Brad (Shirley) Chase, Jan Milburn; grandchildren Linus, Felix, Hanno, Simon, Ilva, Brice, Kylee; and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Gary was preceded in death by his son Gary Chase Jr., father Charles Chase; and brother-in-law Lindy Coffee.
Visitation will be from 5-7pm on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Sunset Funeral Home and service to begin at 1:30pm at Holy Spirit Catholic Church on Friday, January 19, 2024, with a burial to directly follow at Sunset Memorial Park with military rites.

I am sorry to hear of Gary´s passing. He is out of pain now. I didn´t know him personally but I got acquainted with Kathy and she is a loving compassionate soul who would always speak highly of him. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.
