Michael Nicholas Mayse
Michael Nicholas "Mick" Mayse, 81, of Evansville, passed away Wednesday, July 16, 2025 at Heart to Heart Hospice House, after a short battle with cancer. His last days were spent surrounded by family.
Mick was born Feb. 28, 1944, to Dorothy and Vernon Mayse, and was the youngest of four children. After graduating from Mater Dei High School, he met his future wife, Georgia, at a teenage hangout. Georgia agreed to marry him (after turning down his first few proposals), and they were married for 61 years.
Mick worked at Alcoa, where he was on the plant's safety committee and was known to cook burgers, snacks and even large meals for the workers. He regularly attended The Cathedral in Evansville and was a member of the Order of the Owls.
Mick was known for his love of gardening, and the epic tomato crops he grew each summer are something of a family legend. Above all, Mick was known for his dedication to his family, and he spent his life providing for them and being a source of love and support.
Mick is preceded in death by his parents and by his brothers, Gerald Mayse and Donald Mayse
Survivors include his wife, Georgia Mayse; two daughters, Stephanie (Tom) Woodruff and Christina (Tim) Doyle; a son, James (Adrienne) Mayse; four grandchildren, Amber (Ben) Ipock, Olivia Doyle, Ben Doyle and Hazel Mayse; two great-grandchildren, Bradley Ipock and Haley Ipock; a sister, Dosey Lehman; a brother-in-law, Gene Deutsch and several nieces and nephews.
Services for Mick Mayse will be held at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, at Sunset Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be private. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Michael, please visit our floral store.
