Gary Cobb Obituary

Published by Legacy on Oct. 30, 2024.
Gary R. Cobb, age 79, longtime resident of Forkston Township, PA passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, October 26, 2024 surrounded by his family at his home.
Born in Towanda, PA on April 17, 1945, he was the son of the late Raymond W. Cobb (d. January, 1985) and Ethel (Wootton) Cobb (d. November, 2013). He was a graduate of Dallas Senior High School and Bloomsburg State College where he received a BS degree in Secondary Education majoring in Earth, Environmental and Physical Science. He always boasted that his academic prowess contributed to him graduating summa cum "lucky".
As a retired teacher of Tunkhannock Area School District, Gary remained forever thankful for having had the privilege of teaching so many wonderful young people over a period of three decades. His students always remained very important to him as they continued on with their lives. He also loved his time working many summers on the nearby Baker farm. He was an avid outdoorsman who spent all the time he could muster with outside endeavors such as hunting, fishing, gardening, and tending to his large lawn.
Gary's family was the pride and love of his life. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary, of 45 years; his daughters, Michele Simmers and her husband, Jeff of Jenningsville, PA, Bridget VanHouten and her husband, Pete of Jenningsville, PA and Stacie Watson and her fiancé, Bruce Rittenhouse of Hunlock Creek, PA. He is also survived by his sons, Dustin "Matt" and his wife, Sharon of Wyalusing, PA and Jason and his wife, Jennifer of Stow, MA. Additional survivors include a sister, Vivian Schiffgens and her husband, John of Venice, FL; his grandchildren, Matthew Matylewicz (Kara), Joshua VanHouten (Janie), Lindsey Chiarelli (Sam), Cailyn VanHouten Charles (Adam), Cole Simmers, Riley Cobb, Grady Cobb, Raegan Cobb, and Harrison Cobb; four great-grandchildren; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by Mamie Eisenhower and Joe Paterno.
Other than have never dined at a Hooter's restaurant, Gary leaves this earth with few regrets, and, at his request, there will be no calling hours and services will be simple and private. In his memory, plant a tree, take a walk, read a book, say a few words on behalf of the miserable old fart, or open a bottle of your favorite spirits and enjoy...better yet, have a couple.
