Gary Lee Collings, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on June 22, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on October 24, 1964, in Creston, Iowa, Gary made a remarkable mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey from a small town to becoming a skilled plumber was underpinned by his commitment to craftsmanship and community service.
A graduate of Tuloso-Midway High School in 1983, Gary not only brought his dedication to his work but also shared a raw sense of humor that endeared him to friends and family alike. His natural kindness made him an approachable figure and a confidant for many who sought his wisdom and companionship.
Gary joined the Navy in 1986, proudly serving his country with honor. His time in the military shaped him into the steadfast and reliable person everyone came to love, reinforcing the values of loyalty and respect that he carried with him throughout his life.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Gary was passionate about fishing—a pursuit that offered him tranquility and joy. Out on the water, he found solace and often included loved ones in these cherished adventures, where laughter and stories would abound.
He leaves behind his devoted wife, Cynthia Zapata Collings, with whom he shared countless memories and dreams. Their bond was strengthened by the joy of raising their children, Zach Zapata and stepson Jon Zapata, along with Jon's wife, Kirstin. Gary held a special place in his heart for each as they grew under his guidance and support.
Gary is survived by his brothers, Larry Collings and Donnie Collings, along with Donnie's wife, Sheila, and his sister, Debra White Collings. Together, they share fond memories of laughter and love, which will echo in their hearts forever.
He is preceded in death by his cherished parents, Fredrick and Marilyn Collings; his loving brother, Thomas Collings; and his beloved son, Casey Collings. Their absence is deeply felt, and they remain forever in the hearts of those who remember them.
A memorial service celebrating Gary’s life will be held on June 30, 2025, starting at 12:00 PM at the Sawyer-George Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas. As we gather to honor a life well-lived, we will carry forward his legacy of kindness, humor, and love for family and friends—a testament to the wonderful person that Gary Lee Collings was.
