Gary Coon Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mercer-Adams Funeral Service on Nov. 21, 2021.
Gary Leon Coon, 75 years of age, lived in Oklahoma City with his wife of 53 years, Carol Coon, until his death on Nov. 19, 2021. Gary passed away at home with his loved ones close by. He graduated from Capitol Hill High School and joined the Marine Corp, where he trained at Camp LeJeune. He was promoted to the rank of Corporal and earned a decoration of sharpshooter badge during his military training.
Over the years, being a driver for Metro Transit gave Gary a lot of topics for good conversation until retirement allowed him to take up newly discovered talents and hobbies of playing the guitar and keyboard for his family and friends, which he dearly enjoyed.
Gary was a dedicated Oklahoma Sooners Football fan and would never miss watching his team play. He loved to fish and would rarely pass up an opportunity to go fishing with family and friends when the opportunity arose. His beautiful family was always expanding around him, and he cherished every occasion to gather around them to make new memories.
Gary Coon was also a loved and respected High School basketball COACH during his early years and while his own kids were in high school. In his off time, he would make himself available to referee basketball games for local colleges and high schools and enjoyed every minute.
But more than his love of sports, Gary's love for the Lord was his main calling. Gary accepted Christ into his heart at an early age and chose to follow God's plan for his life. Gary was honored to be a long-serving member and deacon in the Baptist church that he and his family attended. Through his personal testimony and witnessing to people he met, he was blessed to be able to lead many souls to Christ by telling others about the perfect love and salvation that he himself had received through Jesus Christ. Gary lived his life so others would see Christ through him. He was a true man of God who loved his Savior so much, that he believed everyone should know Christ as he knew him.
