Gary Ray Day, age 73, of Heiskell, passed away on February 25, 2026, at his residence, surrounded by his loving family.

Gary was born on August 13, 1952, in Campbell County, Tennessee, to the late Willie and Myrtle Day. He later married Betty Sue Welch, and together they built a large, loving family with seven children and 21 grandchildren. Gary was deeply devoted to his family and cherished every moment spent with them.

Gary was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Andersonville and a Baptist Evangelistic. He dedicated many years of his career to the Knox County Schools, working in the HVAC department, where he was known for his strong work ethic and commitment.

Throughout his life, Gary enjoyed fishing, woodworking, and working on vehicles. He also served his country honorably as a Sergeant in the United States Army. Gary will be remembered as a family man whose greatest joy was being with those he loved.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Day, and sisters, Wanda Day and Sandy Sullivan.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Betty Sue Day of Heiskell; children, Stephanie Elliott & husband Jimmy of Powell, Kimberly Humphrey & husband Gary of Heiskell, Jessica Webb & husband Dennis of Cookeville, Justin Day & wife Morgyn of Damon, TX, Rebecca Clifton & husband Brian of Oakland, Nathan Day of Heiskell, and Jeremy Day of Clarksville; 21 grandchildren, sisters, Linda Savage of Karns, Donna Welch & husband Noah of Heiskell, and Peggy Duncan of Lenoir City; along with several nieces and nephews.

The family will have a graveside service at 8:30 am, Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery with full military honors at graveside. Holley Gamble Funeral Home in Clinton is in charge of all arrangements. Holleygamble.com
