In Loving Memory of Gary Patrick Green
1950-2024
Gary Patrick Green, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully at his residence in Boyd, Texas, on August 10, 2024. Born on November 20, 1950, in Mount Clemens, Michigan, Gary was the beloved son of the late Michael Wilbur Green and Margaret Roberts.
Gary was baptized as a child.
During his formative years, Gary's family relocated to Anaheim, California, where he grew up surrounded by the warmth and vibrancy of the community. He graduated from high school in Anaheim, a proud member of his class.
Gary later pursued further education at Cal Poly after serving in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Gary served with honor and distinction, becoming a member of the Special Forces and also serving as a radio operator. He rose to the rank of Sergeant, demonstrating unwavering dedication to his fellow soldiers and a profound love for his country. His military career also took him to the Philippines, where he spent time stationed, further broadening his experiences and strengthening his commitment to his service.
Upon returning from the war, Gary resumed his career in the printing industry, a field in which he had begun working before his military service. His skills as a Pressman were exceptional, and he quickly rose through the ranks to become a respected press operator. Over the years, Gary's expertise and work ethic earned him the role of trainer, where he shared his vast knowledge and experience with others. His colleagues knew him as a consummate professional, always willing to lend a helping hand and teach others the intricacies of the trade.
In 1981, fate intervened in the form of a workplace encounter with Darlene, the woman who would become his lifelong partner. The couple married in 1982, embarking on a journey filled with shared passions and unwavering love. One of the most profound connections they had was their mutual love of horses. This shared passion not only strengthened their bond but also became a central part of their family life, with each member having their own horse.
Family was the cornerstone of Gary's life. He was a devoted provider and protector, always ensuring that his loved ones were cared for and safe. He took immense pride in his role as a husband and father, and later, as a grandfather and great-grandfather. Gary's children-Tawnya Moore (and her husband Kevin), Gary Michael Green (and his wife Tania), and Heather Green (and her husband Eric Esquivel)-were the light of his life, and he was deeply proud of the people they had become.
In his later years, Gary developed a deep love for golf, a pastime that brought him great joy. The camaraderie of playing with his buddies on the green was one of his favorite ways to spend his time, and those who played alongside him knew that the laughter and stories shared on the course were among the things he cherished most.
Gary leaves behind a legacy of love, dedication, and service. He is survived by his beloved wife of 42 years, Darlene Green; his children, Tawnya, Gary Michael, and Heather; his nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in his heart. He is also survived by his two sisters, Kathy and Jeanette, and his brother, Neil, as well as countless extended family members and friends who were blessed to know him.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Margaret, and his brother, Michael Green. Though their loss was deeply felt, Gary found solace in the belief that they would be reunited in the next life.
A funeral service to honor Gary's life will be held on Friday, August 30, at 10:00 AM at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend, as we come together to celebrate the life of a man who gave so much to so many. Gary will be remembered for his quiet strength, his steadfast love for his family, and his unwavering dedication to those he cared about. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and his spirit will continue to guide us in the years to come.
Rest in peace, Gary Patrick Green. Your journey on this earth may be over, but your legacy will endure forever.
A Graveside service will be held on Friday, August 30, 2024, at DFW National Cemetery Pavillion beginning at 10:00am.
