In Loving Memory of Gary Elden Hamblin
August 20, 1949 – November 4, 2025
Our hearts are broken at the sudden and unexpected passing of Gary Elden Hamblin, who left this world on November 4, 2025, at his home in West Jordan, Utah.
Born on August 20, 1949, in Roy, Utah. A proud veteran, Gary served his country with honor in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War from May 1971 to January 1973. He earned the rank of Sergeant (E-4) in Communications and was honorably discharged after his dedicated service.
Among his many stories, Gary often shared his unique role in history-while stationed in Germany he monitored the communications for the Apollo 13 astronauts during their harrowing mission. It was a point of pride for him and said it was his claim to fame.
Gary was also known as the "Tax Wizard." What began as a side hustle-learning to prepare taxes and helping friends and neighbors-grew into a thriving business built entirely by word of mouth. Eventually, he left his full-time job to become his own boss, working independently for over 40 years. He often joked, "Tax men don't retire until they die." So now, we all have to find a new tax man.
Gary is survived by the love of his life, his wife of 31 years, Janthia Murdoch Hamblin. His children: Kami Woods, Kim Palmer (Blake), Amy Butler (Matt), Jake Hamblin (Ashlee), and his bonus children Jennifer Boyce (Bryan), Michael Reid (Sonya), and Stephanie Reese (Andrew). He was a proud grandfather to 18 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him joy and pride.
Gary's patriotism was matched only by his deep love for his family and his unwavering loyalty to those he cared about. He will be remembered for his protectiveness, his sharp wit, and the quiet strength he carried through life-even as he faced many health challenges.
In accordance with Gary's wishes, no formal services will be held. A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date, with details to be shared in the coming weeks.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who has reached out with love and support during this difficult time. Your kindness and compassion mean more than words can express.
