CORDELE - Gary C. Hickox, 68, passed away early Friday morning, June 6, 2025, at Crisp Regional Hospital. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 8, 2025, in the chapel of Hughes & Wright Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
Gary was born in Cordele, Georgia, to the late Willie Clyde Hickox and Lindsey Shirley Gibbs Hickox. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joel Hickox.
When his health allowed, Gary was an active member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon. He had a heart for ministry and especially loved working with kids during Vacation Bible School. In his downtime, Gary enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, fishing, watching Star Trek and old Westerns, and spending time with his great-nieces and nephew-who always brought a smile to his face.
Gary was a receiving leadman for MBM Corporation. He also had worked for Southeast Frozen Food, Pabco, and Cordele Uniform.
Gary is survived by his wife, Ramona Hickox of Cordele; his children, Joel Dennis Hickox and Lesli Gatliff, both of Cordele; and his brother, Allen Hickox (Julia) of Cordele. He also leaves behind a special aunt, Sharon Timmons, also of Cordele.
He'll be lovingly remembered by his nieces Julia Donohue (Matthew) of Cynthiana, Kentucky, and Kristin Cook (Joseph) of Cordele; great-nephew Julian Donohue of Cynthiana, Kentucky; great-nieces Aurora Lambert and Luna Lambert both of Cordele and Mana Thomas of Leesburg, Georgia. Gary is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Carol Goodman and Reneé Sartin, both of Georgia-and his beloved fur baby, Angel.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 133 Emmaus Road, Cordele, GA 31015.
The family may be contacted at the home of Sharon Timmons, 1452 Hwy 257, Cordele, Georgia 31015.
