Gary Joe Hunnicutt, 71, a resident of Columbia, passed away on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at Caring Hearts and Hands of Columbia.
Gary was born on October 24, 1953, in Kansas City, KS, the son of Walter Lee "Bud" Hunnicutt and Chiquita "Keet" (Hyskell) Hunnicutt. On July 15, 1972, he married
Jamie Robyn Hunsucker, and she survives.
In addition to his wife Jamie, he will be sadly missed and forever remembered by three children, Emily Cummings and husband Augustus of Kansas City, MO, Caitlin Hunnicutt of Columbia, MO, and Evan Hunnicutt and wife Mikhela of St. Louis, MO; three grandchildren; Ivan Cummings, Lucas Cummings, and Olive Hunnicutt; two brothers; Steve Hunnicutt and wife Susan, and Dane Hunnicutt and wife Jennifer, both of Kansas City, MO.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
Gary attended Ruskin High School in Kansas City, MO, and went on to work at FedEx for 34 years.
He was a man of many passions. He poured himself wholeheartedly into fitness and health (probably to balance his love of chocolate!), and for a time motorcycles brought him joy and freedom. Throughout it all, music was a constant. He taught himself ragtime guitar and gravitated to the bass line of every song. He was a lifelong learner; his sharp mind could lock in with laser focus on any number of topics. If he found something fascinating, he'd plumb the depths of the subject and then ensure that you also knew why it mattered. If you wanted an opinion on what was best, be it peanut butter or beer, Gary had an answer, and more often than not, he was right.
Above all, Gary understood the faithful love of God and embodied it with his "one and only" for 53 years, 2 months, and 1 day. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at Christian Fellowship Church, 5045 Chapel Hill Rd, at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday September 24, 2025. Visitation will commence at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service, a reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Caring Hearts and Hands of Columbia, 1307 W Broadway, Columbia, MO.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker-Millard Funeral Service and Crematory, 12 E. Ash St.; Columbia, Missouri 65203. (573) 449-4153. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.milardfamilychapels.com
