Gary L. Leonard

Gary L. Leonard Jr., 65, son of Gary and Rose (Lubich) Leonard, of Ellsworth, WI, passed away unexpectedly January 23, 2024. He is reunited in death with his wife Dawn. He is survived by his parents- Gary and Rose Leonard, brothers- Scott (Robin) Leonard and Todd Leonard, children- Jill O'Brien, Justin (Annie) Leonard, step-children- Valerie Kruger and Cynthia Jilk, and his five grandchildren- Courtney, Blake, Arden, Oliver and Ravis.
Gary was born on Independence Day (July 4) 1958, in Red Wing, MN which may have contributed to his love for bald eagles. He grew up outside of Ellsworth WI where he graduated high school and afterwards obtained a certificate for Auto/Light-Truck Mechanics at the Red Wing Vocational Technical Institute where he received the "Outstanding Student" recognition. He worked a great portion of his life as an auto mechanic.
He was known for his need to keep busy, handyman capabilities, willingness to help with anything, and his love for motorcycles and bald eagles.
Gary will be remembered as a son, brother, father, stepfather, grandpa, and friend.
A gathering for family and friends is planned for February 4, 2024 from 2PM – 4PM at the O'Connell Family Funeral Home, 130 N. Grant St. in Ellsworth, WI. Memorials preferred to the discretion of the family.
