Gary Luttermoser Obituary
Published by Legacy from Oct. 6 to Oct. 8, 2025.
Dr. Gary Kenneth Luttermoser, devoted husband to Chrstine, father, grandfather, and physician, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his beloved family, at the age of 78.
Gary was born on December 7, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan to Kenneth A. Luttermoser and Shirley V. (Laszo) Luttermoser. He grew up in Bay Village, Ohio with his parents, older brother Donald ("Donny"), and older sister, Carol.
He graduated from Bay High School in 1965, where he was unsurprisingly the school's Prom King and valedictorian. He attended Ohio University, earning his bachelor's and master's degrees in Mechanical Engineering, while a member of Phi Delta Theta. He began work toward a PhD in Mathematics, but his path shifted when he decided to pursue a calling in medicine. He went on to become a family practice physician, known not only for his expertise but also for his compassion and care
for every patient. After Gary's retirement, he and Chris moved to Miami, Florida to enjoy their final years together in the sunshine.
Gary's life was rich with passions. He loved gardening, going to "U-Pick" farms, and tinkering in the basement, fixing everything from speakers to his children's toys. He had an endless appreciation for good food, was a permanent member of the "clean plate club," and consistently sought endless salad bars and unlimited ice cream. He was a thrill seeker who loved rollercoasters and expensive, often dangerous fireworks. Gary also relished exercise, whether it was running, lifting weights, or being the first to jump into the pool each spring.
Gary had an affinity for rock music, particularly Led Zeppelin and Jethro Tull. He and Chris delighted in traveling all around the country to music festivals, from Governor's Ball in NYC to South by Southwest in Austin. His hearing loss, he would joke, came from playing music too loudly in his Ford Mustang with his childhood best friends, Tom Tritton and Lee Matthews.
Beyond his accomplishments and hobbies, Gary was defined by his values. He was pragmatic, unflappable, and deeply loving. Gary lived simply, without many regrets, and with an unwavering devotion to his family. Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Shirley, and his brother, Donald. He is survived by his loyal wife of over fifty years, Christine; his children, Michael (Alana) Luttermoser and Allison (Will) Beckham;
and his four cherished granddaughters, Sienna, Sydney, Mila,
and Grace, who lovingly called him "Papa." He is also survived by his sister, Carol Kahoe; nephew Josh Nagley, nieces Jennifer Rieger and Judy (Mike) Taveira, with their daughters Sophia and Ana; and sister-in-law, Maria Giannaros.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to his wonderful friends and caretakers at The Palace Gardens Memory Care community, particularly Martha Cerda, Indira Cerda, and Alejandro Medina. The family is grateful for the comfort and support provided by Gary's hospice nurses, Ed and Mitra. Lastly, the family thanks his dedicated physical therapist, Moi Cabrera, who kept Gary happy, moving, and grooving until the very end.
