Allan F. Benz

Allan F. Benz, age 89 of North Canton, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2025. He was born March 28, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Albert and Hilda Benz. Allan lived his first eighteen years in Cleveland, where he graduated from Lutheran High School. He studied at Ohio University in Athens, earning a degree in Civil Engineering, and then enlisted in the U.S. Army following college. He was stationed at Fort Belvoir, Virginia, as a Second Lieutenant, Combat Engineer Unit Commander, before his honorable discharge in 1959. He later obtained a Masters in Business Administration from Indiana University, and then moved to the Canton area in 1970, when he began a 36-year career with the Babcock & Wilcox Company. Allan loved big band music, enjoyed spending time with his dogs, and spent countless hours as a soccer referee.
He is survived by his daughter Sara (Greg) Godfrey, his son David; his brother, Donald; and his grandchildren Lauren and Calvin. A memorial service will be held Thursday, October 9th, at 11 am at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7707 N. Market Avenue North Canton, OH. Visitation hours will occur later that day, Thursday, October 9th, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Reed Funeral Home, 801 Pittsburg Ave. NW, North Canton.
