LOUDONVILLE: Gary E. McClure, born February 12, 1944, in Ashland, Ohio, passed away on July 18, 2025. He was the son of Marvin (Pete) McClure and Lucille (Bell) McClure.
Mr. McClure graduated from Loudonville High School with the class of 1962 and earned his degree from Bowling Green State University in 1966. He married his high school sweetheart, Karen Harris, on May 2, 1964.
Throughout his teaching career, Gary taught American history to thousands of students, focusing on the U.S. Civil War through projects and cemetery field trips. He was a Civil War history enthusiast, collecting and reading hundreds of books on the subject. Gary's other favorite pastime was meticulously maintaining his house and lawn on his property near Loudonville.
Gary was well known and respected as a football, basketball, and track coach at the junior high and high school levels, and was part of five undefeated football teams. He also prepared a number of track athletes to compete in state-level competitions.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Karen McClure; his son, Craig McClure (Agnieszka); his daughter, Jennifer McIntosh (Scott); his granddaughters, Sylvia Biskaduros (Jordan), Rachel McIntosh, and Leah McIntosh; his sister, Sheryl Barnard (Roger); his brothers- and sisters-in-law, Bob and Barbara Harris, and Larry (Whitey) Harris and Susan Harris; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Mr. McClure was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Sondra Myers.
Memorial contributions may be made to the L-P Athletic Department.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 2-4 PM at the Loudonville United Methodist Church, 124 N. Market St., Loudonville.
