Gary Minnick Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Snow Funeral Home - Saginaw on Feb. 26, 2026.
Gary M. Minnick

Midland, Michigan

Beloved father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at Colonial Villa. Age 84 years. Gary lived a life defined by faith, service, generosity, and unwavering devotion to family. Gary was born on January 14, 1942, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Cletus and Arlene (Richter) Minnick. On August 28, 1965, he married the love of his life, Marlene K. Treib. They shared many devoted years together until her passing on April 4, 2018. Their marriage was a foundation of love, faith, and hospitality that continued to shape Gary's life long after her death.

A dedicated and hardworking man, Gary began his career at Eaton Manufacturing in 1964. Over 41 years of faithful service, he demonstrated integrity, perseverance, and commitment until his retirement in 2005. His work ethic was matched only by his servant's heart.

Gary's life was truly a life of service. He volunteered faithfully at Adventist Community Services and more recently at MyMichigan Hospital, where he was known for warmly greeting others while popping popcorn for visitors and staff. He also gave generously of his time at the Toni and Trish Hospice House, offering compassion and presence to families during their most difficult moments. Helping others was not simply something Gary did-it was who he was.

Deeply grounded in his personal faith, Gary allowed his beliefs to guide his daily actions. He loved the outdoors and found peace and joy in nature. Though rooted in tradition, he embraced new technology with curiosity and enthusiasm, always eager to learn the latest and greatest advancements.

Family was Gary's greatest treasure. He always put his loved ones first and opened not only his heart but his home to others. He lovingly opened his home to two nieces and became an "adopted" grandpa to many children who were blessed by his kindness and steady presence. After Marlene's passing, Gary continued their tradition of hospitality by welcoming families into his home, offering a place of gathering and belonging.

Surviving are one son and one daughter, Randall John (Nicole) Minnick, Grosse Pointe Woods; Brenda Kay (Tony) Khalil, Midland; his adopted niece, Becki Frost; three grandchildren, Kayla (Fred) Holden, Jessica (Eric) Smoot, Aidan Khalil and his significant other Nai Puipui; three great-grandchildren, Archer, Myles and Callum; many beloved nieces and nephews and their children, including Drake, Baine, Braeden and Kendyl. Gary was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Terrie Lynn Minnick; his siblings, Shirley (Bob) Byers, Jim (Sharon) Minnick, Roger (Debra) Minnick, Sharon (Tom) Goodell.

Funeral Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Midland Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2420 E. Ashman Street, Midland, Michigan. Pastor Benjamin Garcia will officiate. Private interment will take place in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit at the church on Sunday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the New School Building Fund at Tri-City Seventh-day Adventist School, 2420 E. Ashman St, Midland, Michigan 48642. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd.
