Gary Edward Paynter, age 80, of Cooper City, Florida passed away on August 24, 2024 in Danvers, Massachusetts.
Gary was born in Savanna, Illinois to Carl and Beulah Paynter on September 1, 1943. In 1961, Gary graduated from high school in Janesville, Wisconsin and eventually joined the United States Army. Gary was stationed in Germany where he reached the rank of sergeant serving in counterintelligence. Upon returning from the US Army, Gary went on to graduate from the University of Wisconsin in Whitewater with a bachelor's degree. On June 6th of 1970, Gary was married to Diana Lee Birch in Janesville, Wisconsin and they remained married until her passing on May 18, 2024. On September 29th of 1970, Gary entered the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a special agent and was assigned to the Boston office. During his time with the FBI, he was also assigned to New York City, Gary, Indiana; and Miami, Florida where he served as a squad supervisor for many years. Gary also enjoyed occasionally serving as a guest instructor at the pursuit driving course at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. In addition, Gary and Diana were both involved in many activities over the years with their church, Gloria Dei Lutheran in Davie, Florida; upon moving to Cooper City, Florida in 1985.
Gary is preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Beulah, his brother, Donnie, and his wife, Diana.
Gary is survived by his two sons, Brad (Denise) Paynter of Lyles, Tennessee and Blake (Meredith) Paynter of Swampscott, Massachusetts along with his grandson, Thomas "TJ". In addition, Gary is survived by his sister-in-law, Deborah Gilbertson of Eau Claire, Wisconsin and his nephew Shawn (Tracy) Flippin of Cochrane, Wisconsin.
A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held sometime in September at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Davie, Florida.
