Gary Raymond Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Skinner Funeral Home - Eaton Rapids on Dec. 22, 2023.
Gary Robert Raymond, a resident of Mason, MI, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 21, 2023, at the age of 69. Born on January 27, 1954, in Jackson, MI, Gary was the son of Rodney and Norma (Whitney) Raymond.
Gary's early years were spent in Leslie, MI, and later he moved to Eaton Rapids, where he graduated with the class of 1972. He pursued his education at North Central College before returning home to contribute to the family businesses, Rods Lounge in Eaton Rapids, and the Maple Leaf in Vermontville.
A skilled Carpenter, Gary dedicated several years to working on significant projects, including the Capitol building, Sparrow Hospital, and Michigan State University. His commitment to his craft was evident through his service as the Recording Secretary and Vice President of the Carpenters Union Local 1004.
Beyond his professional life, Gary actively engaged in his community, serving on the Aurelius Township Planning Commission Board and volunteering for various community projects, including the construction of a playground in Mason. Known for his expertise and strong work ethic, Gary found fulfillment in later years working for Darrell's Hardware during his retirement.
During his leisure time, Gary enjoyed fishing and riding motorcycles. However, his greatest joy came from spending time with his family, particularly his beloved grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Shelia (Thayer) Raymond. He leaves behind his daughters, Megan (Zack) Perfitt and Dana (Nate) Niederer, and his adored grandchildren, Maree, Zaden, and Myloh Perfitt, Emma, Ellie, and Elaina Niederer. Gary is also survived by his brother, Steve (Doris) Raymond, sisters LeAnn (Rusty) Smith, Debbie Overholt, and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service in honor of Gary's life will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, December 27, 2023, at Skinner Funeral Home, Eaton Rapids chapel, with visitation starting at 10:00 AM. Following the service, the family will host a light luncheon to celebrate Gary. To share your memories or leave online condolences, please visit www.SkinnerFuneralHomes.com
