Gary Louis Schmelzle, 83, passed away peacefully at his home on August 4, 2024. Born on August 2, 1941, in Rome, New York, he was the son of Royal Schmelzle and Doris (Pfiefer) Goppert, and was lovingly raised by his step-father, Leonard Goppert.
Gary graduated from Oriskany High School and dedicated many years of service as an electrician for Colgate-Palmolive in Clarksville, Indiana. He married the love of his life, Christine (Berndt) Schmelzle, on August 18, 1962, in Rome, NY. Christine preceded him in death.
An avid fisherman and golfer, Gary found joy in the simple pleasures of life.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his three children, Dale (Kelly) Schmelzle of Crothersville, IN, Dawn Lewis of Crothersville, IN, and Dean (Angel) Schmelzle of Austin, IN; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and his brother, Allen Goppert of Florida.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Royal Schmelzle, Doris Goppert, Leonard Goppert and his beloved wife, Christine Schmelzle.
Cremation services have been entrusted to Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory.
Friends and family can visit on Friday, August 9, 2024 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Adams Family Funeral Home & Crematory, 110 East Howard Street, Crothersville, Indiana 47229.
