In Loving Memory
Gary Lee Worthley
March 17, 1950 - July 16, 2025
BLOSSVALE, NY - Gary "Old Dog" Worthley passed away on July 16, 2025 at his home, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, hard work, and unwavering love. Sixth of thirteen children born to Manning and Virginia Worthley, Gary learned the value of dedication early in life. Sacrificing his education and youth, he helped support his large family, always showing up when they needed him. He was predeceased by his parents and eight siblings: JoAnn, Manley, Rolla, Carol, Duane, Wayne, Bruce, and June. He is survived by sister Fern and brothers Mark, Daryl (John), and Manning.
On September 11, 1971, Gary married Donna May Bortle, beginning a 53-year journey together. A devoted husband and father, he balanced his demanding early-morning work schedule so he could come home for treasured family evenings. Together they raised four wonderful children. Gary's heart broke in April 2020 with the sudden passing of his eldest daughter, Kristy. He is survived by his children Jeffrey, Jennifer, and Matthew, who will always remember that Dad never missed an opportunity to tell them how loved they were. His warmth also embraced their partners – Kristy's husband, Todd, Jen's husband, Douglas, and Matt's partner, Jessica. Each will deeply miss his presence.
In October 1991, Gary became a grandfather, and his oldest grandson, Tyler, affectionately dubbed him "Dadoo", a name he cherished. His greatest joy came from his grandchildren. Tyler, Paige, Rosalie (Jane), Elvie, Manning, Oscar, Sonny, Hunter, Jeremiah, and Benjamin all knew just how deeply he cared for them. Dadoo's great grandchildren, Olivia, Owen, and Elena also held a special place in his heart.
Gary was blessed with lifelong friends Joe and Janet Pease, who stood by him through every high and low. Whether sharing a cup of coffee or playing a game of poker, the bond he had with Joe and Janet was a testament to his loyal and loving nature.
Known for his playful spirit, like ordering "diet" water just to get a rise out of servers and family, Gary brought humor and light to every room. With his steadfast work ethic, he lived to provide for the people he loved. Through laughter, practicality, or lending a hand, he made everyone around him feel seen and adored.
In place of a formal service, the family invites friends and loved ones to share memories, stories, or photos privately with Donna and the children. These treasured remembrances will be lovingly compiled and kept in Gary's memory. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to the Town of Vienna Volunteer Fire Department.
May Old Dog's spirit live on in every laugh, every act of kindness, and every moment of togetherness he inspired. His memory remains a blessing to all who knew and loved him.
