A faithful servant of the Lord, Gayle Donnell Anders departed this life at the age of ninety-five and entered the presence of the Lord on December the 22nd 2024. She passed away peacefully at her home in Slaughter – the only home she ever knew. Gayle graduated from LSU in 1950 with a bachelor's degree in chemistry. She went on to obtain her teaching credentials from LSU in 1956 and was an elementary school teacher at Slaughter Elementary, like her mother. Gayle was a member of First Baptist Church in Zachary. She was an adult Sunday school teacher for many years, but her love was teaching children. She taught bible drill work to the youth of First Baptist Church in Zachary for 28 years. One of her favorite verses was Proverbs 22:6: "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it." Gayle was preceded in death by her beloved husband of almost 50 years, Wilson N. Anders. Gayle is survived by dear friends Dara Cannon Kelsoe, Nyki Lane Paxton and Rinda Richards Davis. A funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Zachary on January 3rd at 11 AM. Visiting is from 10 AM to 11 AM prior to service. Interment in Young Family Cemetery, The Plains. Pallbearers will be Alan Hobgood, Coy Hobgood, Jeff Termini, Robert Becker, Roy Paxton, and Tim Byrd. Honorary pallbearers are children that took part in bible drill classes taught by Gayle. In lieu of flowers, please consider sending memorial gifts to First Baptist Church, 4200 Main Street, Zachary Louisiana 70791 or the Honduras Cookie Project, PO Box 546, Slaughter LA 70777. Gayle will be missed by those that loved her but is now at peace in the arms of her Savior.
