Edwin Lea McGehee, was born in Greensburg, LA on August 6, 1933 to Henley McGehee and Clara Lea McGehee. He passed away peacefully at his home in Jackson. Lea was a veteran of the Korean Conflict serving 4 years in the US Navy in Japan. Visitation will be on Friday, August 1, 2025 at First Baptist Church in Jackson from 9:00 am until service time at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Jackson Cemetery, Jackson.
Lea was preceded in death by his parents, Henley and Clara Lea McGehee; his only sister, Vera Plaisance, and niece, Teri Plaisance and by many aunts and uncles and those who were closest was Aunt and Uncle Eddie B. and Lillian Wright who supported Lea throughout his lifetime.
Lea is survived by his children, Michael McGehee and Marlin McGehee (Carrie), grandchildren, Marcus McGehee and Madison McGehee and former wife Virginia Osborn.
Pallbearers will be Brian Hawthorne, Jim Odom, Kit Maples, Christopher Hawthorne, Chandler Hawthorne and Bubba McCrory. Honorary pallbearers will be James Odom, Joel Odom, Jesse Donze, Tommy Maples and Billy Smith. He was a graduate of Baker High School and attended Barber College in New Orleans. He was a full time barber until his appointment to Registrar of Voters. He only had a barber shop part time for many years until his retirement. Lea was a member of Dixie Youth Baseball in Jackson for many years and was a charter member of the Jackson Jaycees. Lea was most happy spending time with his family. He loved all sports; mostly LSU Tigers. He followed his grandson Marcus McGehee all through his track and field years at LSU. Lea was a great father to his children and grandfather to his grandchildren.
