Genevieve Laxey Living

February 7, 1932 - September 28, 2025

Lafayette: Genevieve Laxey Living was born on February 7, 1932, in Lafayette, Louisiana, to Oriska Celestine Laxey and Theodore Laxey. As the first of seven siblings, she played a pivotal role in her family.

Genevieve passed away on September 28, 2025, at the remarkable age of 93.

She was married to David Living, Sr., for 35 years until his passing, and together they welcomed six children into the world. A truly admirable woman, she embodied the qualities of virtue described in Proverbs 31: 10-31 . Genevieve dedicated over 20 years of her life to working as a nurse assistant and also served as a direct care worker. Her passions included; cooking, reading, crocheting, and nurturing roses: all while keeping her family united.

She is survived by her children: Jeanella (Janelle) Marie Living, John Phillip Living, Stephen Gerard Living, and Anthony Jerome Living (Fredreka). Her grandchildren include, Noelle Narcisse West (Jason), Jamesseia Living, Terica Living, Zakarie Narcisse (Miranda), and Nyla Living (Jarius). She also leaves behind great-grandchildren: Derrien Lewis, Jameion Living, Jamie Living, Jailon Living, Tyson West, Colin West, Eden Hunter Ponds, Jace Rivera, Jaci Arceneaux, Jaxx Arceneaux, Evie Rubin, Levi Narcisse, Sophia Narcisse, Bryson Narcisse, and Tanner Narcisse. Her great-great-grandchildren are Carter Martin, Onyx Living, and Karson Martin.

Additionally, she is survived by two sisters, Mary Margaret Laxey and Hazel Marie Laxey Ballard, a sister-in-law, Theresa Denny, along with numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David Living Sr.; two sons, David Living, Jr. and James Nelson Living, Sr.; her parents, Oriska Celestine Laxey and Theodore Laxey; and her siblings, Jeanette Laxey Guidry (Wilson "Son"), Nolan Laxey, John Thomas Laxey, and Raymond Laxey (Lula Belle); her in-laws, Phiiibert Living, Mercedes Harris, Catherine Malbreaux (Andrew), Ernest Living, Sr. (Nola), Nola Living Sinegal, Robley Living, Nettie Brown Living, and Carl Ballard; and grandsons, James Nelson Living Jr., Jax Anthony Arceneaux, Kerry James Journet, Terry Living and great grandson James Nelson Breaux.
