October 24, 1930 - March 14, 2026

Genevieve "Jen" L. Sharp, age 95, died March 14, 2026, at Samaritan Hospital in Macon, Missouri.

She was born October 24, 1930, on a farm west of Mike, Missouri, to Jacob Kasper and Mabel Marie (Dunlap) Kornbrust. She attended school at Bills School east of Mike, Missouri, St. Bonaventure in Marceline and Marceline Public Schools. She proudly worked toward and received her GED in 1992 at the age of 61. One of her first jobs, as a young woman, was serving as a fill-in operator for the phone exchange at a local home in Mike, Missouri, helping keep the community connected.

Jen met Robert Sharp after he returned from his overseas deployment during World War II in 1946. They married on November 19, 1947, in Haynesville, Louisiana. They moved to their home in rural Marceline in the early 1950's and resided there for the rest of their lives. Robert preceded her in death in August 1980.

Jen had many hobbies and interests. She loved making Amish Friendship Bread, always having some ready to share with friends and family. Crocheting afghans and shawls was a pastime that brought comfort and warmth to her family. In her younger years, she enjoyed riding her horse, Smokey, on trail rides and at shows with her friends from the Silver Spur Riding Club. She had a special place in her heart for animals, especially her beloved dogs and cats, who brought her endless joy and companionship. Jen was also a talented poet and had a poem published, reflecting her love of writing and creative expression. Many years ago, she cherished participating in 4-H activities with her grandchildren, helping them with projects ranging from raising chickens to learning how to bake pies - including helping her granddaughter earn "Best Bake It with Lard" at the Linn County 4-H Fair.

Jen had a love for hoot owls and collected many owl pieces over the years, a reflection of her unique interests and the things that brought her joy. She loved lighthouses and, inspired by that passion, enjoyed reading Yankee Magazine and imagining life along the rugged Maine coast.

In her late 50s and 60s, Jen shared a special friendship with Dale Hoskins. They enjoyed traveling, dancing, and spending time together until his death in 1999.

Genevieve is survived by her three children: Dennis Sharp of Marceline, Kevin Sharp of Marceline, Deanna (Sharp) Chrisman of Marceline, and her bonus daughter, Laurel Curry of Bucklin; her grandchildren, Allison Chrisman, Aaron(Brittany) Chrisman and Jason Chrisman, two great-grandchildren, Rylan Chrisman and Neva Chrisman, and one great, great-grandchild, Ripp Chrisman. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Jen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; her sister-in-law, Mildred Sharp Winn; her siblings, JC Kornbrust, Harold Kornbrust, Robert Kornbrust, Mary Lambert; and her son-in-law, Ronnie Chrisman.

In accordance with her wishes, no services will be held. The family requests memorial donations to the Animal Shelter of Linn County, or the Marceline Area Nutrition Program, which may be left at, or mailed to, Rhodes Funeral Home, 216 Linn Street, Brookfield, MO 64628.

Arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Rhodes Funeral Home, Brookfield, MO.

Lamentations Of The Seasons

By Genevieve L. Sharp

The seasons come and go

And bring memories of you.

I miss you in the spring

When the birds are singing

And tiny shoots peek

Through the newly washed soil

I miss you in the summer

When the sun ripens the wheat,

The fireflies glow

And the frogs call from the pond.

I miss you in the fall

My favorite time of year,

When the trees are resplendent

With golden leaves

And the frost is on the pumpkins.

But most of all I miss you in the winter

When the trees are barren,

The snow falls

And I do not hear your voice

Nor have your hand to hold.
