George P. Barrett, of Ewing, passed away at home peacefully, on December 3, 2024, at the age of 71. He was the loving father of Meghan, Melissa and Marshall Barrett; the dear brother of Mary Jane Barrett, Helen Barrett, Jim Barrett, Kathy Corbett, Eugene Barrett, Jr. and Jody Barrett; and the former spouse of Carmela Williams. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Eugene Barrett, Sr.
Born on May 22nd, 1953 in Towanda, Pennsylvania, he was the oldest son of seven children. He spent his childhood on his family's dairy farm before moving to Indiana and graduating from Purdue University with a bachelor's degree in environmental science. After spending several years living in various cities of California, George moved back to the east coast to work for FMC in Princeton as a chemist until 2002. In that time, he also obtained a master's degree in environmental science from Rutgers University. He then went on to work for XBL Laboratories until his retirement in 2017. George was a lifelong loyal fan of the New York Giants, whose poor performance this season, surprisingly, was not the cause of his passing. He cheered for the New York Yankees and Penn State football as well. His pride in his Irish heritage and love of author J.R.R. Tolkien were proudly passed on to his children. He was also a member of the Ewing chapter of the Knights of Columbus and involved in numerous charities through his local Catholic Church.
Relatives and friends are invited to a gathering in celebration of George's life on Thursday, December 12, 2024, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by his Funeral Service, 12:00 p.m., at Murphy Funeral Home, 935 Parkway Avenue, Ewing, NJ 08618. Interment private.
In lieu of flowers, a donation in George's memory may be made to Catholic Charities.
