Services for George Belchic, Jr., M.D. will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 275 Southfield Road, Shreveport, Louisiana. A private burial service will follow. Officiating the service will be Father Michael Cannon.
Dr. Belchic was born in Shreveport December 1, 1925 and died Good Friday, April 18, 2025.
He attended Shreveport schools and graduated from C.E. Byrd High School. He earned a B.S. in Physics in 1944 and a M.S. in Petroleum Engineering in 1948 from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. After his father's death he became head of his oil production company, Belgam. He served in the United States Navy during WWII.
He changed direction in the early 1960's, returning to school and graduating from The University of Mississippi School of Medicine in 1966. Dr. Belchic interned and completed his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at what is now the LSU School of Medicine in Shreveport. After practicing in Shreveport, Ruston and Bogalusa, he joined the LSU hospital in Monroe, E.A. Conway, where he practiced for the next 21 years, retiring at age 87. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.
Dr. Belchic was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Harriet Cameron Belchic; his brother, Mike Belchic; daughters, Katherine Belchic, Ellen Belchic and son, George Cameron Belchic.
He is survived by his daughter, Martha Belchic-Loeb and her husband Sam; granddaughters, Ellen Snider Shelton and husband, Todd of New Orleans, Cameron Rolland Bryant and her husband, James of Bavaria, Germany, Martha Rolland Demmond and her husband, Zac of New Orleans, Sarah Belchic Laws and her husband Spencer, of Nashville, TN, and Mary Katherine Hutchison of Gonzales; his nieces, Jacqueline Layne Belchic of Houston, TX and Lindsey Cameron Briley of Tallahassee, FL.; his great-grandchildren, Georgia Elizabeth Bryant, Addison Grace Bryant, William James Michael Bryant, Evangeline Rose Bryant, Josephine Lorraine Demmond, Theodora Frances Demmond, Riley Reid Ramirez and Sophia Reese Ramirez.
Honoring Dr. Belchic as pallbearers are Sam F. Loeb, Jr., Zachary Demmond, Todd Shelton, Bobby Matthews, First Sergeant James Bryant and Mayor Tom Arceneaux. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Jonathan Brewer, Michael S. Rolland, Spencer Laws, Gerald Johnson and the late Joseph David Belchic.
The family suggests memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 30, 2025 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at The Shreveport Club, 410 Travis St, Shreveport
