George C. Berthold

George C. Berthold, 84, a devoted son, sibling, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed on Thursday, July 24, 2025, in the comfort of his home in Garrettsville, OH, after stoically enduring Parkinson's Disease.
He was born on September 8, 1940, the second oldest child of nine siblings born to Oliver and Evelyn Berthold of Elyria, OH. George dedicated his life's work to raising, caring, and training thoroughbred horses, in which he achieved over 400 wins, including the Ohio Derby, various Stakes races, and even a run in the Kentucky Derby. He also enjoyed hobby farming and tending to his land. We are grateful for his hard work passion, experience, and the knowledge that he passed onto us. George will be respectively remembered for his quiet nature, integrity, and his quick wit, which brought many smiles and much laughter. His presence will be deeply missed but his life will forever be embedded in our hearts and memories.
George will be deeply missed by his wife, Gayle, with whom he was happily married to over a span of 61 years; They spent many years working alongside each other and together raised three children, Brett (Julie) Berthold, Kimberly (Steven) Turnbull, and Justin (Chelsea) Berthold; They pridefully welcomed six grandchildren, Olivia Long, Tara Berthold, Elijah (Cassie) Long, Ashley Berthold, Aiden Turnbull, and Kaid Turnbull; As well as four great grandchildren, Delilah Long, Charlotte Long, Morella Longwell, and Sage Longwell; Surviving siblings, Shirley (Harry) Schreck, Evelyn (Andy) Spooner, Gary Berthold, Carol (Steven) Rudisill, Dale (Christine) Berthold, Ron (Laura) Berthold, sister-in-law, Ruth Berthold, and brother-in-law, Rudy Gorning.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Evelyn Berthold, and his siblings, Thomas Berthold, Linda Gorning, as well sister-in-law, Ester Berthold.
