George Harrison Blackwell, age 93, of Dalton, Georgia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at Ridgewood Manor following a long illness. A proud veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Blackwell served his country with honor before returning home to build a life rooted in hard work and quiet dedication. After his military service, he was employed by Galaxy Carpet Mills, where he contributed to Dalton's thriving textile industry for many years. George was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Townsend Blackwell, and his siblings, Johnny Blackwell, Frank Blackwell Jr., James Blackwell, Eugene Blackwell, Edward Blackwell, Ray Blackwell, Robert "Bobby" Blackwell, Albert Blackwell, and Minnie Lee Farmer. He is survived by his sister, Lois (Sherman) Farmer, and a dear friend, Nancy (Lynn) Gaston, whose companionship brought comfort and joy in his later years. Mr. Blackwell will be remembered for his steadfast spirit, his service to his country, and the quiet strength with which he faced life's challenges. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and cared for him. Funeral services will be conducted on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 1:00 PM from the Chapel of Dalton Funeral Home with Pastor Ricky Spence, and Reverend Paul Armstrong officiating.
