George Boucher Obituary

George Boucher (95) passed away peacefully on January 14, 2026 in North Ogden, UT, where he spent the past two-and-half years with his family close by his side.

George was born in Monterey, California on September 5,1930 to George Raymond and Dorothy Weeks Boucher. Shortly after George's birth, they moved to Clover Valley, Nevada and then to Elko, where George and his sisters, Calda Rose and Veda Lynn, attended Elko High School. After High School, George enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at Johnson Air Force Base in Japan where he proudly served his country.

After serving in the military, George earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering at University of Nevada Reno.

George returned to Elko in the mid-1950's to care for his ailing father who served as Justice of Peace in Elko. After his father's passing, George built an addition onto his childhood home for his mother to have her own beauty shop on Elm Street. During the late 50s and early 60s George held a teaching position at NYTC, where he taught auto mechanics and led the young men to fight wildfires in Northern Nevada.

While working at NYTC, he met the love of his life, Janis Kaleen Sykes, his "Texas.

Rose", to whom he was married for 58 years. George and Janis were married on August 16, 1964, in Sonora, Texas and lived in Elko where they proudly and lovingly began building their family. George and Janis had 3 children, Mark (Austin, TX), LaRae (Lubbock, TX), and Jess (North Ogden, UT).

George went on to work for Elko County as a road supervisor before stepping into the role of Elko County Manager in 1974, where he spent 27 years serving his community before he retired in 2001. Elko County thanked George for his many years of service by dedicating a building and a road to him, which are near the courthouse in downtown Elko. George was an avid Elko County historian and loved sharing his stories and knowledge of the territory and the people that he was privileged to meet during his tenure.

George is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janis, and his son Mark.

He is survived by his children LaRae and Jess (wife Andrea), and their 3 sons Corbin (wife Rebecca and child in June), Kaiden, and Keaton who all remained lovingly by George's side after the passing of Janis in 2022.

George had 7 grandchildren and 3 (plus another soon) great-grandchildren.

George enjoyed working on vehicles, hunting, rock hunting, and collecting tools. George will be remembered for his service, loyalty, and love of family and community. His family will remember his wisdom, guidance, and his love for the tradition of making homemade ice cream and sitting out back telling stories.

En lieu of flowers please make donations in George's name to the Northeastern Nevada Museum (775) 738-3418.

"This, That, and The Other"

His stories of a life lived long ago.

May have seemed humble and ordinary.

But amidst this, that, and the other.

Stood an extraordinary man.

With extraordinary stories.

And for those who listened.

He lives on -CB.

George was always the kindest & friendliest man. For years he walked several blocks to work & would arrive to work at his Court St. office as I'd be getting out of my car every morning. He would always stop & say hello and wish me a great day. He was very suited for his County Manager position. My condolences to his family. He was very respected and loved by many.

George never forgot a face or a name. I often saw he and Janis in Raleys. With a tip of his hat he always stopped to talk for a bit. Our condolences
