George Burrus Obituary
George Edward Burrus Sr. was born on September 28, 1949, to the late Deacon Edward and Sister Mildred Burrus. After a life marked by humility, he passed away on February 2, 2025, at the Elizabeth City Rehabilitation Center.
George was the sixth of thirteen children. He was a loving husband to the late Diana Burrus and a devoted father to three children: Rondrequal McCloud of Pantego, NC; George Burrus Jr. of Greenville, NC; and Georgette Burrus of Belhaven, NC. He also leaves behind six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, along with ten siblings: Edvita Moore (Kenneth), Cheryl Burrus, Jerry Burrus (Sarah), Phyllis Gordan (Howard), Gruver Burrus (Glenda), Terry Burrus, Samuel Dudley, Janet Palmer, Celestine Simpson, and Denise Dudley. George also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A man of deep faith, George loved the Lord and was dedicated to his church family. He was an active and committed member of St. James Church of Christ, where his devotion to God and his congregation led him to serve as a Deacon.
In addition to his faith, George had a passion for fishing, which brought him joy and peace. He also pursued education at Elizabeth City College and later served his country with honor in the U.S. Army, where he was drafted and served for four years before receiving an honorable discharge.
Georges legacy of love, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
